Go on treat yourself, it could do you more good than you think !

Tuesday, 4th October 2005

When did you last buy new lingerie? You could be doing more than just spoil yourself, it's good for your health !!

Did you know wearing the wrong size, badly fitting or an old bra could damage delicate breast tissue!!

When was the last time you were measured to find out your correct bra size.....? Sometime in the last 12 months or never . Well you should get yourself measured or even measure yourself at least every 6 months as breast size can change due to weight loss or gain and it is especially important during pregnancy and following childbirth.

Wearing a bra that is the wrong size is not only uncomfortable and can give you backache but could also cause damage to breast tissue as there is  no muscle only tendons which if stretched cannot be corrected without surgery and cause sagging of your bust.

If a bra is well fitting it not only feels comfortable it also improves your overall appearance as your bust should have smooth lines with no bulging or creasing under clothes. So the next time you wear a T-Shirt  just take a look at yourself in a mirror, if you look like you have four boobs or they've gone south then that is a clear indication of a poor fit.

As well as the wrong size bra an old bra can cause a similar effect. A bra will only last 6 months if machine washed, slightly longer if hand washed so chances are if your previously perfect fitting bra seems big you need a new bra not a new size.

Here at Intimate-Secrets we constantly get asked questions from our customers about bra fitting so to help we've listed the top 6.

Why do my boobs raise my bra away from my chest at the front between the cups?

The cup size is too small as the bra should sit flat against the chest.

Why do the wires stick out at the front or dig in under my arms?

The cup size is too small as the wires should lie flat against your body so the breasts are fully enclosed.

Why is there wrinkling over the cups, particularly at the top and sides, or I have sagging cups.

The cup size is too big as the breasts should be enclosed in the cups with no creasing.

Why does my bra ride up my back?

Your bra band size is too big as the strap should fit snugly around the rib cage. When you have he correct fit the weight of the breasts should be supported by the body of the bra rather than by the shoulder straps.

Why do my bra straps dig into my shoulders and leave red marks?

As the body of the bra should take the weight of the breasts the bra back size is probably too big, or it could be that the straps are simply too tight. It is also possible that the overall bra is too small (either the cup size or the band size), get re-measured.

My favourite bra used to fit nicely but not any more, and I'm sure my size hasn't changed?

If the bra is old (over 6 months) and you've machine washed it, chances are it's worn out. In that case you will need a new bra, not a new size! To be sure follow our easy measuring guide and then compare the results with your current size.

Follow our simple guide to measuring yourself.
